Apple recently released tvOS 27.2 alongside iOS 27.2 and macOS 27.2. This marks the first update since tvOS 27 debuted in September, as the company skipped version 27.1 entirely.

The update introduces a new Shuffle option for screen savers, allowing the device to cycle through Aerials, Memories, Portraits, and Snoopy categories rather than displaying a single static category. Users can now select specific photos from their iPhone for screensavers without sharing their entire photo library with the Apple TV, offering better privacy for shared households.

FaceTime receives significant improvements with the addition of FaceTime links, enabling users to join calls directly from their Apple TV. While the call utilizes the iPhone as a webcam via Continuity Camera, the update also supports third-party sign language interpreters and live captioning services during calls. These enhancements are available across iPhone, iPad, and Mac with their respective updates.

Find My functionality for the Siri Remote has been expanded. Previous Apple TV models can now locate the remote through the Find My app, eliminating the need to open the TV Remote from the Control Center. Newer devices with the updated Siri Remote feature an integrated speaker for easier location.

The Apple TV app now supports American Sign Language (ASL) and British Sign Language (BSL) for movie and show selection, accessible via player controls or Settings. Profile support has also been added to the Apple TV app on iPhone and iPad, syncing with Apple TV and featuring new character icons for user customization.

The software update is free and compatible with the second-generation Apple TV 4K (released in 2021) and later models. Some advanced features, such as setting up surround sound systems with two pairs of HomePod mini 2, remain exclusive to the new Apple TV 4K equipped with the A19 chip.
