Apple CEO John Ternus defended the company's approach to artificial intelligence during an interview with Wired's Steven Levy. Ternus, who officially assumed the role at the start of September 2026, addressed concerns that Apple has lagged behind competitors in AI development.
Ternus acknowledged public opinion on the matter but expressed satisfaction with Apple's current position. He confirmed the company plans to integrate AI into new products but stressed that technology should remain invisible to users. According to Ternus, successful implementation means people do not need to distinguish between AI-driven features and traditional software.
The executive also discussed the potential impact of AI agents on the ecosystem. When asked if such tools might render apps unnecessary, Ternus noted that while this could simplify life, product creation remains a deeply human endeavor that Apple values.
