Anthropic has released Claude Duet as a proactive personal assistant that operates on its own virtual machine with a dedicated browser to surf the web and complete tasks. Duet can use apps connected to a Claude account and is designed to check linked accounts every few hours to stay updated, a design choice intended to balance usefulness with plan limits. Availability is currently limited to Claude Pro and Max subscribers in the United States, and users must join a waitlist to begin using the agent. The waitlist requires basic information including name, company, email, device type (Android or iPhone), and a short description of intended use. Anthropic plans to make Claude Duet a perk of the $20-per-month Pro plan, with no current availability for Team or Enterprise customers during the preview. During the preview, Duet will share usage data with other Claude apps like Code and Cowork. Duet can generate daily briefings with action items and allow users to delegate tasks such as scheduling meetings, creating forecasts, or building web apps. Its proactive behavior means it reaches out when tasks are completed or require approval. The feature relies on data stored in the Claude account, including memory content and connected apps, raising privacy considerations for users who share more of their digital life. The company has indicated that Duet’s usefulness will depend on how much data users are willing to share with Anthropic.
