Google may be exploring a social extension for YouTube through a separate app named Tamba, according to references found in the latest Android build of YouTube. Visual assets show a logo described as a more improvisational take on the YouTube emblem, and code strings mention features such as private messages, group chats, likes (hearts), follower requests, and more. It is not clear whether this would be a full standalone app or merely an experimental testing ground for social features inside YouTube.
Previous social features have appeared gradually in YouTube, with direct messaging already present in the app. Whether these signals culminate in a public product remains uncertain, and Mashable has reached out to Google for comment for further clarification.
